Harry Potter debate q#1: Why did Voldemort fear death? (Unanswered, to me)?

I don't believe J.K. Rowling ever explained why Voldemort believed death to be a human weakness. Maybe I missed something within the 5-7 books, but all I read about was his obsession with immortality.
