Is car battery still as good as new?

I got a new car battery this week but I left the headlights on and I needed help to get it jump started. Since I let this battery die am I actually losing any life from it's expectancy? Usually if batteries die they are no good but with cars it is different. Did I actually lose any life from this car battery or should I still consider it as good as new?
